Mr. Charles Smith Sr. was born in Fort White, FL on February 10, 1934 to the late Elfleta Sumpter and Fred Smith. As a child, Charles was educated in the Columbia County public school system. Charles was known as a hard worker and worked for many years as a general contractor before his retirement.
He was married to Susie Atkins and to this union three children were born; Charles Smith Jr (deceased) and Pearl Smith of Gainesville, FL, Mary Louise Smith and Charlene Smith of Alachua, FL. He later married Dorothy Smith, who preceded him in death. To this union five children were born; Stanley Smith who preceded him in death, Rosalee Smith, Vivian Smith, Michele Smith and Charles Smith III, all of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his sisters; Rosetta Anderson Merricks, Gloria Mosley and Carrie Randal.
On Friday, January 8, 2021, Mr. Charles Smith Sr. accepted the master’s call and entered eternal rest.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories; his sisters, Arcelia Patten (George) of Michigan City, Indiana, Frances Legree (Ervin) of Fort White, FL, Melvease Simpkins of Tampa, FL, Emma G. Barton (Robert) of Gainesville, FL; his brother, Lorenzo Hopkins of Fort White, FL; his uncle; Frankie Sumpter, 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and sorrowing friends.
