Thomasena Denise Murphy was born on August 30, 1960, in Gainesville, FL. She met her untimely demise on January 1, 2022, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL.
Thomasena, affectionately called “Nisa,” or by her husband as “Butter Ball,” was born in East Gainesville and resided in the Duval Heights neighborhood, where she passed time by playing with the many cousins and neighbors. She was the third eldest of six siblings. She enjoyed going fishing with her mother, her husband, and others. She also loved to sing, dance, and shop. And her favorite quote was “Won’t He do it.”
A graduate of Gainesville High School, Class of 1978, she exemplified the meaning of hard work. She accomplished many goals that she set for herself and her family. As a dedicated employee of Shands at UF Health, she rose through adversities and remained employed to the end, working tirelessly during her illness. Never once losing her faith in GOD, when asked about her health, she would simply reply: “They say..., but my faith is in God.”
She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at DaySpring Missionary Baptist Church, then transitioned to Jesus People Life Changing Church in 2006, where she finished her servitude until her demise under the leadership of Pastor Horace Mingo and Prophetess Luretha Mingo.
Rejoicefully on Saturday, January 1, 2022, the Lord and Savior called her home and gave her the wings to rise up from sickness and strife into the glorious light.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel Thomas, Sr., and Hazel Ellis Thomas; and a brother, Nathaniel Thomas, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her life and many memories: her loving husband of 12 years, Freddie Murphy, Sr.; her son, Benjamin Murphy, Jr. (Summer); stepsons, Clifton Murphy (Sharsay) and Freddie Murphy, Jr.; four siblings, Wanda Ellis, Anthony Thomas, Alisha Thomas (Rolanda), and Chadewick Thomas (Synteche); grandchildren, Bentley, King, Qurareona, Javareonta, Dovyon, Jaonna, Clifton Jr., Freddie III, Kanian, Dayvon, Max, and Mason; three aunts, Mary Frances Ford (Samuel), Mayola Williams, and Rosetta Campbell; sisters-in-law, Cora Murphy, Ernestine Lawrence (Wendell), and Judy Murphy; brother-in-law, Elara Murphy; a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a special daughter, Teemerail Mosley; a special niece, Linnel Tolbert; a special friend, Chronda Nicholas; and a special cousin, Martina Ford.
