Marie Davis Carter was born September 13, 1935, in Montgomery Alabama and was the third of five children born to the late Obie and Lillie Bell Davis. She was loving called “Baby Sister” by her siblings; Tommy(deceased), Herman, Caesar(deceased) and Rosa Nell, even when she was s no longer the youngest. She graduated from Booker T. Washington, High School in Montgomery Alabama. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. She married Wyatt Carter Jr. in 1953 and blessed their union with six children, Yvette, Jocelyn, Margaret, Carolyn, Donna and Wyatt.
After residing in Virginia, and St. Petersburg, Florida, they moved and made their home in Gainesville, Florida. Marie became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1966 and after a few years of working at Alachua General Hospital, she was employed by Dr. C. W. Banks, where she worked for over 35 years.
Marie was an active member of Mt. Herman Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, and served faithfully until her health began to fail. She was a member of the Elks, and served as a Foster Grandparent with the Alachua County Grandparents Program.
Her loving and caring ways and outgoing personality combined with her exceptionally good deeds have had a significant and positive impact on the lives of the community and many generations.
Mrs. Carter was called home on June 2, 2020 and leaves to cherish her memory: Her brother; Herman Davis(Margaret), sister; Rosa Nell Hamilton, sister-in-law; Mae Liza Carter, her children; Yvette Hart(Terry), Jocelyn Ingram, Margaret Gregg, Carolyn Carter, Donna Starke (Allen), Wyatt Carter III(Sherry); Lee Williams (Bridgette), Angela Carter; 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
