Katie Jane Dean Cunningham, age 31, of Gainesville, Florida left this plane of existence April 16, 2020. She was born on March 13, 1989 in Austell, Georgia to Connie Green and Gary Dean. She is preceded in death by parents, and is survived by the love of her life - her husband, Eric, and their much beloved daughter, Silver. Katie was a devoted and loving daughter who maintained perfect grades in school, yet always found time to tear up the mosh pit with friends at ska and punk shows.
Katie and Eric married in an intimate ceremony February 24, 2013. They built a life together in Gainesville, Florida, and soon welcomed a beautiful daughter, Silver, Katie’s darling, her life, her pride. Katie was a friend who valued truth, compassion, and respect, and taught anyone lucky enough to know her what it was to maintain grace and integrity in the face of adversity. Like a rose growing through a crack in the pavement, she blossomed from an impoverished child to an impeccably styled woman who filled any room she entered with beauty and laughter. A lover of song and dance, Katie frequented karaoke nights in Gainesville, gracing friends with her haunting mezzo soprano voice and inspired innumerable caravans to the Castle in Ybor where she danced away the night in black velvet and lace. She welcomed anyone in need to her home, often with a cup of tea in hand and a silk scarf around her red hair.
She was a beauty for the ages, the physical embodiment of a Victorian portrait. Her personality, wit, and humor were akin to the warm and charming stars of the lay century’s Vaudeville stage- yet, at times, childlike and fae. She was a founding member of the Mischievous Madams burlesque troupe, performing as the spooky sweetheart Formaldehyde Flower. Her artistry is forever immortalized in the memories of her audiences.
A private wake was held in her home, and an open memorial with respect to Katie’s Wiccan beliefs will follow at a future date yet to be determined. Following her private burial, respects may be paid at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery.
