James (Jim) David Ford was born October 9, 1945 in Doctor's Inlet, FL and passed from this life November 6, 2021. While he was in elementary school, the family moved to Melrose, the place he would call his hometown. He is a 1965 graduate of Melrose High School, where he was on the football and basketball teams. After graduation he followed in his father's footsteps and joined the United States Navy. While he enjoyed his time in the service, being so far from Melrose did not sit well with him and he was honorably discharged in 1969. He married Glenda Chamblee in 1972 and together they had two daughters. They parted as friends in 1985.
Jim was a simple man and a Melrose institution. Most Saturdays he could be found at Chiappini's, watching football or the cars go by. He would share his mechanical expertise when asked, and in the mood. He counted among his friends all of the "old school" Melrose folks. This was a blessing and a curse for his daughters who had few secrets from their dad as a result. The last few years found Jim sticking close to home, but he could not be happier than when his grandchildren or great-grandchildren dropped in on him unannounced.
He was preceded in death by his parents RV and Gertrude (Shorty) Ford, his niece Bobbie Lynn Ford, and nephews Robert V. Ford and Timothy James Ford. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecka (Paul) Boulet, Loretta Rhodes, brother Robert C (Linda) Ford, nephew Donald James (Nancy) Ford, grandchildren Dustin Rhodes, Crystal Lyons, Juno Boulet, Julia Rhodes, Brianna Boulet, and Westley Boulet, and great-grandchildren Elizabeth Abby, Tynslei Rhodes, and Paisley Eden, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
