Hertha’s Legacy

Mrs. Hertha Wilson Robinson was born on August 1, 1932 in Gainesville, FL to the late Alberta Irving & Union “Boss” Robinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters Melves Singleton and Margie Robinson, and her brotherJulius “Junbug” Robinson.  She fought a good fight, kept the faith and finished her course.  On Wednesday, December 18, 2019 Mother Hertha Robinson was granted a well-deserved rest.

She was reared in Gainesville, FL and was educated in the Alachua County School System.  She worked for several years as a private housekeeper, and wasemployed briefly by University Laundry, before retiring to devote her life full-time to the upkeep and maintenance of her family, which she performed in excellence.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Simon N. Robinson whom she was devoted to serving for 57 years until he departed this life on January 7, 2010.  To this blessed union, nine children were born. Truly behind every GOOD man, there is a GOOD woman.

As a child, Hertha was reared in the ways of the lord, and that rearing served as the foundation of herlifelong faith.  She joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church (currently New Life Christian Center) where she was a faithful member and servant until her health began to decline.  She was active on the motherboard, trustee board, deaconess board, pastoral aid, and many other areas during her time. She was also a faithful member of the Monteocha Community Prayer Band.  Hertha was truly a woman of unwavering faith and a willing worker for the lord.

She enjoyed gardening, farming and sewing, but her greatest talent was “COOKING”.   She truly enjoyed cooking huge meals for her family, extended family and the community.  She found joy in seeing others enjoy her culinary skills.  Her pound cakes, sweet potato pies and “tea cakes” were always in high demand.  In addition to cooking for her family, she enjoyed teaching others how to cook and sharing many of her recipes.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories:  HerLoving and Devoted Children: Josey Robinson, Jobie (Marsha) Robinson, Gladys (Alfred, Sr.) Peterson, Evelyn (Josh) Hobdy, Louvenia (Donnie) Sloan, Carolyn Robinson (Carl), Mitchell Robinson, Levern Robinson, Michael Robinson, Brenda (Tommy) Coward, Sheila (Ronald) Phillips, Bridgette (Tim)Lawson, Sonya (Carlos) Mandrell. Her Siblings: Pearl (Horace) Banks, Rose Edith (Roscoe) Gaskin.
