Easter Nellie Ford Carlisle passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, March 25th, 2022. She was born July, 31,1932 to parents Reuben and Alma Ford.
Easter grew up a part of the Ford family, residents in the area of Melrose and Hawthorne since the 1800s. She grew up on her family farm, having fun and working hard, she enjoyed the interesting and intriguing farm life with her beloved brother, Allen, and her Sister Norma. She and her sister were best friends, and included each other in nearly everything. They remained extremely close for their entire lives. A good student, Easter went to Melrose school from first grade to twelfth grade, and graduated in 1950. Later in life she spent some time as the Vice President of the Melrose High School Alumni Association. She graduated from Alachua General Hospital Nursing School in 1957. She was adored and respected by her peers and patients throughout school and her career. She also kept a lifelong friendship with her Nursing School peer, Mrs. Annette Feaster. Easter worked as an RN for 45 years. She worked with doctors Andrews and Cofrin in an office in Gainesville, then Alachua General Hospital, and finally at Shands at AGH. She semi-retired in 1994 when her twin grandchildren were born, and fully retired in 2002. Easter loved cats, springtime, traveling in her younger years, and was an avid reader before being diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. She loved both of her children deeply and unconditionally.
In life, she was adored and respected as a graceful, giving, and sweet person. She loved her family. When asked about her proudest accomplishments, she answered that she was proudest of her children, grandchildren, and her nursing career.
In death, she was surely embraced in paradise by her daughter, who had been a longtime house companion of hers and whom she was very close to, and by her loving parents and her beloved brother.
Easter is preceded in death by her Parents, Reuben Royal Ford and Alma Parrish Ford. Her brother, Allen Ford. And her daughter, Serena Lynn Carlisle.
She is survived by her sister, Norma Ford Carter and Norma’s husband, Roland Carter; Her son, Dexter Carlisle; Her grandchildren; Jasmine Poore, Brandon Poore, twins Laurel Hornick Bartley and Dylan Hornick, and Ben Morgan. She has a total of 6 great grandchildren and 4 bonus great grandchildren, all of whom she adored, and who loved her very much and filled her final years with love and memories. She was also adored by her grandchildren’s spouses, and her large family, including her nephews, nieces and cousins. The absence of her matriarchal love and guidance will leave a void for the entirety of the foreseeable future.
