Mr. Gilford Carter, Sr. of Alachua, Florida peacefully slipped away to be at rest with his Lord Monday, April 15, 2019. Deacon Gilford Carter, Sr., was born October 23, 1939 in Pelham, Georgia to the late Mr. Matthew Carter and the late Mrs. Martha Clark Carter. _____________________________________________________________ Deacon Carter, Sr. education started at Mitchell County Training School in Pelham, Georgia, where he attended elementary and middle school. He continued his education at Pelham High and went on to college in New York City. His time in New York was short lived as he came back home to Pelham, Georgia. He married his school sweetheart, Betty Stewart and welcomed their children. Deacon Carter, Sr. was no stranger to working while being back home, but the relocation of Royal Poultry Chicken Farm brought him to Gainesville, Fl around 1960. After, the closing of the chicken farm, he worked at General Electric by day and 5th Avenue safety cab by night until he retired in 1999. During this transition, he lost his first wife and then later on remarried, Antoinette Anderson. Him and Antoinette shared many years together and a home daycare before they divorced. While Gainesville became his new home, he also found him a church home. Church was an important part of his life. He held many positions throughout the congregation and served over 25 years of service under Bishop Larry James Dennison at Compassionate Outreach Ministries and his latest years at Church of God By Faith as Deacon Carter, Sr. under Elder Jeremiah Lee, in Fairbanks, FL. _____________________________________________________________ He precede in is homegoing, his brothers Jimmy Carter, Sr. of Williston, Fl. and Richard Carter, Sr. of Archer, Fl. _____________________________________________________________ He leaves behind his legacy to carry on his daughters and sons, Virgil Carter of Gainesville, FL, Gilford (Gail) Carter, Jr. of Gainesville, FL, Michael (Tasha) Carter of Tampa, Fl., Michelle (Clarence) Scott of Williston, FL, Derek Carter of Gainesville, FL, and Chanelle Carter of Gainesville, Fl. His devoted stepchildren Charazard Brown, Dedrick Baldwin and Shedrick Anderson, all of Gainesville, FL. His grandchildren, great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
